Everyday Lusaka is hosting an artist talk on Saturday, 17th January 2026, examining Zambia's first appearance at the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London. In October 2025, the gallery became the first Zambian institution to exhibit at the fair with "The Inherited Counter-Archive", featuring work by Alick Phiri, Prabhubhai Vilas, and Sana Ginwalla.
The exhibition explored the legacy of Fine Art Studios, founded by Indian-Zambian artist Vilas, who mentored Phiri. Phiri's photographic archive now forms part of Zambia Belonging, a digital counter-archive holding over 1,000 photographs documenting Zambian life.
Moderated by art historian Dr Andrew Mulenga, the talk covers work selection, curation, logistics, and why engagement with international art markets matters for Zambian institutions.
