Ahead of Africa Freedom Day, Cecelia Miller’s solo exhibition “Going to Town” opened on Saturday 17th May at the Everyday Lusaka Gallery. This exhibition of paintings follows Cecelia’s family history, which is closely tied to Lusaka's early infrastructural development during pre and post-independent Zambia. Cecelia’s narrative unfolds as an urban journey – one that begins in Lilayi and ends in the heart of town, around the vicinity of the Everyday Lusaka Gallery.
Photographs from Cecelia’s own family archive as well as Everyday Lusaka’s counter-archive, Zambia Belonging, are depicted in her signature style, telling the story of historic sites around Lusaka – the Freedom Statue, Findeco, High Court or the Freedom Statue.
Expressing her deep connection to the city over four generations, this exhibition is an ode to heritage, honouring the building blocks and memories that shape both this city and Zambia at large.
